The 88th Foot is a type of line infantry in Napoleon: Total War. They are available to Great Britain with the Elite Regiment Pack DLC, which was available for free with the standard boxed edition of the game, then released as part of the Imperial Eagle Pack DLC.
Description[]
These troops are exceptional line infantry, and can be trusted to press forward with any attack.
A little rough around the edges, but courageous and professional on the battlefield, the Connaught Rangers are an Irish line infantry regiment. Whether pushing home a bayonet or forming a disciplined firing line, these men will stand and fight. Like all line infantry, they are vulnerable to artillery fire and the sniping of skirmishers, but they can quickly counter cavalry charges by forming square.
Raised in 1793, the Connaught Rangers were among the best regiments in Wellington’s army, and distinguished themselves repeatedly in battle. General Picton, their divisional commander, saw them as little more than a plundering rabble and never held back from insulting their Irish roots and Catholic religion. This was probably the result of an unfortunate incident involving two Rangers and a goat. The Rangers caught Wellington’s eye at the Battle of Bussaco in 1810, when he declared that he never witnessed a more gallant charge. They attacked without orders from General Picton who was notably absent from the battle!
General Information[]
The 88th Foot are, in almost every category, slightly superior to standard British Foot. Considering that Foot themselves are already among the best line infantry in the game, this makes the 88th Foot a formidable regiment of line infantry, indeed, and the single best regiment of non-guard line infantry in Napoleon: Total War in most regards, even being superior and more cost-effective than France's Young Guard, an elite unit. Formidable as they are, they are still vulnerable to being attacked from outside their range, as well as cavalry charges from the flank or rear. The 88th Foot work best when their flanks are well-guarded and they are supported by cavalry and light infantry.
