Baden-Württemberg is a minor faction in Napoleon: Total War.

General Information[]

Basics at start[]

Baden-Württemberg is a Western European faction. It borders French-held Alsace-Lorraine to the west, Hessen to the north, Bavaria to the east, and the Swiss Confederation to the south. It is initially allied to France and her allies and at war with the Coalition. Should it be removed from the game, it can emerge if its home region has a successful rebellion or is liberated.

Its lands are required for victory for both Austria and Prussia. Austria is granted a mission to take it early in its campaign.

In the Campaigns of the Coalition, Baden-Württemberg automatically merges with the French Empire by the second turn. This doesn't happen in either the Europe campaign for France or multiplayer campaigns, however. If any Wurttemburgian regions are under siege by the end of turn 1, these regions automatically transfer to the besiegers at the beginning of turn 2, and the besieging victors receive a diplomatic penalty with France for territorial expansion. The reason for this is because directly after the end of turn 1, all Wurttemburgian units are disbanded, including its Armed Citizenry, causing all of its former regions to be completely defenceless; the region transfers to France, but is immediately taken over by the besieger.

Diplomacy[]

In France's Europe campaign, Baden-Württemberg has minor historical grievances with France, but it's a reliable ally and a useful buffer state. It tends to support its Bavarian and Swiss allies with troops, sometimes invading Austrian Tyrol and on rare occasions going further. In some uncommon cases it might ally with Hessen and Saxony.

In the Campaigns of the Coalition, Baden-Württemberg's role is usually negligible as it is absorbed by France in the first turn. Should it re-emerge, it has unfriendly relations with all factions from the coalition and many neutral factions, while friendly to France. Despite this, France usually declares war on it if the two are bordering each other.

Military[]

Baden-Württemberg lacks any light or lance cavalry, significantly constraining the flexibility of its cavalry arm. It has access to light infantry, line infantry, and skirmishers, but lacks grenadiers or guard units. Baden-Württemberg has the standard minor faction artillery and ship rosters.
