Bavaria controls its eponymous region at the beginning of the Grand Campaign. It borders Austria to the east, Austrian-held Tyrol to the south, the Swiss Confederation to the south-west, Baden-Württemberg to the west, Hessen to the north-west, Saxony to the north, and Austrian-held Bohemia to the north-east. It is one of France's many allies and is aligned against the coalition of France's enemies.
The region of Bavaria itself is quite large, with a two-slot city, a factory building slot, a cultural building slot, and timber resources. It's a good candidate for invasion, particularly for Austria, due its proximity to Austrian lands. If left to its own devices, the A.I usually has Austria or Russia attack Bavaria early in the campaign. Prussia requires Bavaria as part of its victory conditions.
In the Campaigns of the Coalition, Bavaria automatically merges with the French Empire by the second turn. This doesn't happen in either the Europe campaign for France or multiplayer campaigns, however. If any Bavarian regions during the Campaigns of the Coalition are under siege by the end of turn 1, these regions automatically transfer to the besiegers at the beginning of turn 2, and the besieging victors receive a diplomatic penalty with France for territorial expansion. The reason for this is because directly after the end of turn 1, all Bavarian units are disbanded, including its Armed Citizenry, causing all of its former regions to be completely defenceless; the region transfers to France, but is immediately taken over by the besieger.
Diplomacy[]
In France's Europe campaign, Bavaria acts as a buffer state between France and its enemies. Bavaria is immediately in danger due to the hostile Russian and Austrian armies nearby. If it survives these attacks it sometimes allies with Hessen and/or Saxony as the campaign progresses.
In the Campaigns of the Coalition, Bavaria's role is usually negligible as it is absorbed into France in the first turn. Should it reemerge, it is mostly friendly to France and its allies but hostile to the Coalition and its allies. Despite this, France usually declares war on Bavaria if the two factions are bordering one another.

Bavaria has an above average roster for a minor faction, containing one or two of most unit types, including guards.
Bavaria has the standard minor faction artillery and naval roster.
Trivia[]
- The flag used by Bavaria is a variant of the Lozengy flag, however, this is anachronistic as this flag appeared in the late 19th century and was adopted in 1953. A more historically appropriate flag would be the Electoral Standard of Bavaria (1623-1806).
- Bavaria is most likely to be captured by Austria very early on in the Europe campaign, a bit like Saxony in Empire Total War.
