Belgium is an emergent faction in Napoleon: Total War.

General Information[]

Belgium emerges if the region of Flanders & Wallonia has a successful rebellion or is liberated. Flanders & Wallonia borders France to the south, the Netherlands to the north, and Cleves-Mark to the west (held initially by France), the Batavian Republic, and Prussia respectively.

Below is a list of grievances/friendships other factions have with Belgium if it emerges. This list is exhaustive; factions that are not listed do not have friendships or grievances (they are neutral).

Military[]

Belgium shares some similarities with the United Netherlands in terms of units: the two are the only factions that may recruit Dutch Flanquers, a type of light infantry, and Carabiniers, heavy cavalry with the unusual attribute (for a cavalry unit) of being resistant to morale shocks. The rest of Belgium's roster is unremarkable, with a small selection of line infantry, militia, and grenadiers. The Belgian unit roster lacks elite infantry and skirmishers.

Belgium has the standard artillery and naval roster, lacking some of the heavier ships France and Great Britain have.

Trivia[]

The flag of Belgium appears to be based on the modern flag of Belgium, but the order of colours in the flag of Belgium changed in later years. The normal order is Black-Yellow-Red. Yet the Belgian constitution only states that its flag should contain the colours red, yellow and black. It makes no reference to the order in which they appear. This is why in early years even Belgian flags with horizontal stripes and red, yellow and black flags have been used. Therefore, although appearing odd, the flag is historically correct.
