Bhumiya Levy are a type of mob in Empire: Total War.
Description[]
Arming the people is something that leaders find detestable and frightening, necessary perhaps, but certainly unwelcome.
These people are hardly even peasants, as they do not have any land to work. But they can still be pushed into taking up arms, a desperate action for such folk. At best, they will be armed with agricultural tools (these can still kill in angry hands) and whatever they have managed to loot.
They are of dubious military worth.
General Information[]
Bhumiya Levy are the eastern Islamic equivalent of Firelock Armed Citizenry: weak troops that spawn for free to defend the capital of a region should it be attacked. While they lack the muskets used by Firelock Armed Citizenry, they make up for this in their extremely high number of men per regiment. Unlike Firelock Armed Citizenry, they may also be trained like most units. Landless rabble have dismal statistics, and tend to break at the slightest threat. They are however, the cheapest Mughal unit both in training and upkeep costs, making them good for settling public order.
Like all mobs, the Bhumiya Levy are nearly worthless in combat. Despite their very large numbers, they break easily and can be more of a liability than an asset. Despite their shortcomings, they are provided for free to the defender in sieges and may as well be used as cannon fodder.
