Champion is one of the five default hero class in Total War: Three Kingdoms. Champions are duelists. These people excel at taking out enemy heroes.
Description[]
Champions are skilled one-on-one fighters, making them excellent in duels. Resolve is the Champion's key attribute, boosting his health in battle, and population growth in any commandery where he is the assigned administrator. The Champion's skills tree contains resolve-based skills which improve their melee damage output and confer a powerful splash attack. Champions work well when grouped with polearm infantry.
Overview[]
- Main article: Hero (Total War: Three Kingdoms)
The champion will be able to out duel any opponent with supreme melee ability and vitality. As a leader of the people, they bring bountiful growth to the peasantry.
General Information[]
Champions are excellent leading generals for armies, as they can increase their army's movement range and replenishment. On the battlefield, champions are specialized duelists, with only sentinels usually putting up a solid fight against them. Champions are not very good at dealing damage to regular troops due to their general lack of splash damage, though their high amount of health usually means that they can take punishment from all sources for some time. Generic champions have three unique in-battle skills: Binding Fury, Earthen Rampart, and Hamstring. Binding Fury is an activated ability that deals 7.5k damage in a very small area. This is good for fighting individual generals, but is not as effective at fighting groups of soldiers as Vanguards' Flames of the Phoenix due to the much smaller area of effect. Earthen Rampart massively increases the charge resistance of all nearby friendly units, to the point of making enemy charges deal practically no damage; Hamstring deals unimpressive damage for an activated skill, but it greatly decreases the movement speed and increases the ability cooldown of any enemy it hits.
Champions specialize in training green units into their retinues. Generally, these are spear-wielding infantry that are defensive and anti-cavalry in nature. These troops make excellent "walls" in battle, and they are superb for tying up enemy troops when placed in chokepoints during siege battles or for locking down mounted Heroes. They also typically wield heavy shields that make them highly resistant to enemy archer fire.
Champions are good administrators for peasantry-focused commanderies, thanks to their increase to peasantry income and population growth. Champions don't have many faction-wide bonuses if made into prime ministers, heirs or faction leaders, and so are generally less than ideal for these positions. They also have a node in their skill-tree increase production of food while being administrators.
