Churches are buildings in Medieval II: Total War. They allow recruitment of priests and, for a few factions, some new units too. They also improves happiness in settlements and increase conversion rates to christian faith.
Building name | Effect | Cost | Building time turns | Description | City level required | Units recruited |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Small Church | +5% Happiness and Increase conversation rate | 800 | 1 | With devotion to God prevalent in medieval times, even the smallest of churches are an important building in the communities they grace. Though relatively humble by Catholic standards, small churches are still well built, and are typically one of the most impressive buildings in their locale. | Town | |
Church | +5% Happiness and Increase conversation rate | 1600 | 2 | Though a Christian may pray anywhere, at any time, to suggest they do not need a proper place of worship would far from correct, and any town that would call itself civilised would at least offer its citizens a Church. On top of the obvious benefits of allowing more people to attend mass, a Church will attract enough prospective clergymen to be able to afford to spare one as a missionary. | Large Town | |
Abbey | +10% Happiness and Increase conversation rate | 3200 | 3 | An Abbey is the first of the large Catholic churches, and is considered by many Europeans to be the building that signals that a town has grown into a city proper. Be aware that while its size is a boon in a thriving settlement, an Abbey is simply too large a structure to keep within the confines of castle courtyards, should the ruling lord wish to convert his settlement. | Minor City | Armored Clergy (Denmark) |
Cathedral | +10% Happiness and Increase conversation rate and +5% Health (Orthodox Cathedral wont have health bonus) | 6400 | 4 | One glance at the towering magnificence of a cathedral is enough to suggest to many that the Catholic church has chosen the house of God itself to be its beacon of irrefutable power and enlightenment. Frankly, few Lords can boast to own a structure remotely so beautiful or architecturally advanced as a cathedral, which tend to dominate the skyline of any city they grace. | Large City | Armored Clergy (Denmark) |
Huge Cathedral | +15% Happiness and Increase conversation rate and +15% Health (Orthodox Huge Cathedral wont have health bonus) | 10000 | 6 | Though the Huge Cathedral is a place of piety and purity, jealous lords who have ambitions of divine grandeur consider these structures of unrivalled magnificence to be a vulgar display of wealth. For the ruler that has such wealth, the benefits are undeniable, as the huge cathedral ensures Catholic dominance in the region, and does much to spiritually satiate his subjects. | Huge City | Armored Clergy (Denmark) |
