Led by the legendary hero Sarpedon, the warriors of Lycia play a key role in Homer's account of the Trojan War. Despite having no qualms with the Achaeans, the Lycians fought with ferocity and valour to defend their esteemed Trojan allies. When Hector led Troy's forces against the newly-built Achaean wall they were at the forefront of the battle, holding the battlements and entering the enemy encampment first. Their contribution to the battle granted Troy a much-needed victory against the foreign invaders.
