Denmark appears in the European Campaign, controlling its namesake region as well as Norway.

Denmark borders Sweden to the east, Mecklenburg to the south-east, French-held Hannover to the south, and Oldenburg to the south-west. Over the sea to the west lie the British Isles. Despite being surrounded, Denmark's initial position is pretty safe: Sweden's neutral and relatively weak, Mecklenburg almost immediately allies with Denmark, the French army in Hannover is very small, Oldenburg rarely ventures outside of its sole territory, and the historically hostile British have their hands full fighting France and her allies. Denmark's most direct threat is usually Prussia, which is fairly close and is not preoccupied with honoring alliances or fighting troublesome foes at the beginning of the campaign.

Denmark's relatively stable position, its access to schools and ports, and its good unit roster (for a minor faction) can make it a fairly strong power. Some of its lands are required by the British in the European campaign.

Diplomacy[]

Denmark Diplomacy Map NTW

Initial diplomacy map

Denmark begins the campaign with no allies or enemies, though it harbors strong historical grievances against Great Britain, Sweden and the Papal States; it harbors minor historical grievances against France, and is strongly friendly to Prussia.

Denmark usually allies with Mecklenburg and sometimes Prussia. Other factions rarely invade it, and it rarely sends troops beyond its own borders.

Below is a list of grievances/friendships other factions have with Denmark initially. This list is exhaustive; factions that are not listed do not have friendships or grievances (they are neutral).

Military[]

Denmark is one of the few minor factions that can field guards. Their Life Guards of Foot are slightly below average, being a little worse than Prussian Lifeguard Foot, but they are very capable nonetheless. Denmark has a large selection of skirmishers, but none of them are remarkable. Denmark may also field line infantry, grenadiers, and militia to round out their infantry roster, though they lack light infantry.

Danish heavy cavalry, the Life Guards of Horse, are among the best heavy cavalry in the game. Denmark lacks lancers and missile cavalry, however. Its artillery roster is small, but is not lacking any crucial components with one type each of howitzer, horse artillery, heavy foot artillery, and light foot artillery. Unusually, Denmark's horse artillery has poorer accuracy and reload skill than standard horse artillery, but are significantly cheaper to field in custom battles. They are statistically identical to horse artillery used by Prussia

Denmark ranks below average in ships, lacking any of the steam-powered options or any ship heavier than the 80-gun Ship-of-the-Line.

As one of the playable factions in multiplayer battles, Denmark's greatest strength is its heavy cavalry. It suffers most from a lack of light infantry and lancers.

Trivia[]

  • Danish units speak German. Rather than being incorrect, this is because the command language in the Danish army was German.
