Drill School FOTS

The Drill School is a type of improvement chain building in Fall of the Samurai.

Description[]

Battles are started on the parade ground.

A drill school does much to remake recruits into obedient soldiers, willing to obey orders without thought. This improves their charge bonus into close combat. All Victorian armies used weapons that required a mass of troops to work as one. From marching in formation to occupy land, to delivering accurate and disciplined volley fire, the rank and file were expected to be part of the regimental machine, not individuals. Some units did require individualism from the men, it is true, but for the most part strict adherence to orders and good discipline were required in battle and in barracks. Drill, endless drill, is one way of instilling instinctive obedience into recruits. If they are conditioned to obey orders on the drill square, they will be more inclined to do so in the heat of battle.

General Information[]

Requires 4000 koku, 5 turns, Training Camp.

  • -10% to the cost of recruiting land units in this province
  • +15 to the charge bonus of all units recruited in this province

Drill schools greatly increase the charge bonus of units trained in provinces they're built in. This bonus stacks with those of the holy site line of buildings. Drill schools are best built in regions specialized for training troops that excel in cycling charges, such as Yari Ki. Troops that more often get stuck in prolonged melee fighting may benefit more from Jujutsu Halls instead, and missile troops are much better served with Firing Ranges. Drill schools are considered military buildings, and therefore benefit from events that reduce the construction times and costs of upgrading them.

The benefits of drill schools stack with those of the holy site line of buildings, granting a potential +30 charge bonus when fully upgraded.
