The Dujiangyan Canal in Three Kingdoms

The Dujiangyan Canal is a location in Total War: Three Kingdoms. It is situated in western China, in Shu commandery.

Description[]

To guard against slit build-up causing flood and drought, the Min River was divided.

Historical Context[]

The Dujiangyan Canal, or simply Dujiangyan, is a water management system in China's modern-day Sichuan province. The Qin built the canal during the Warring States period of Chinese history. Constructed by the genius Li Bing, he used an (at the time) novel idea of channelling and diverting the Min River into the nearby Chengdu plains to irrigate the area without causing it to flood.

The Dujiangyan Canal is so effective at its job that it has been continuously maintained by the various Chinese states that rose after the Qin all the way into the modern era. Despite being over 2250 years old, the Dujiangyan Canal is still used for agricultural purposes and is considered a marvel of ancient engineering. It is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
