France is an unplayable faction in Fall of the Samurai.
General Information[]
Along with Great Britain and the United States of America, France is one of three foreign powers that can be traded with by the playable factions.
France is functionally identical to the United States and Great Britain. All three require a faction to build a trading port before they automatically engage in trade. In terms of the volume of trade goods they buy, they act as one-province factions, initially buying three tonnes/bushels of goods per type. In exchange, they sell cotton and foreign machines, required for upgrading certain military and economic buildings. Like the other foreign powers, France never declares war on any faction, nor can it be declared war upon. It cannot field any units or ships. Should trade be lost with France for any reason, such as if the port trading with it is damaged or demolished, or if the port's province is conquered by another faction, it can never be reestablished again. This has significant gameplay implications, as the foreign machines and cotton the foreign powers export are necessary for upgrading many economic buildings, as well as reaching the final tier of modern military buildings.
French trade goods enter the world map from the bottom-left hand corner of the screen, close to the island of Tanegashima.
Factions with a pro-Shogunate allegiance can have France establish a military mission, which grants +5 accuracy for all infantry, allows them to build a French Trading District, as well as the ability to recruit Infanterie de marine elite infantry and build Ironclad - L’ocean class ships.
