Biography[]
Born in Jingzhao commandery, Gao Wang was a eunuch and member of the Ten Attendants during the reign of Emperor Ling. He flourished in the 180s, serving as a close associate to the eunuch Zhang Rang and acting as the "Officer for Medicines" for the imperial court, a position similar to a court doctor. He was particularly close to Ling's eldest son, Prince Liu Bian. After Emperor Ling died in 189 AD, he remained close to Liu Bian, now the Child Emperor of the Han Dynasty.
It is unclear whether or not Gao Wang was involved in the eunuch plot that assassinated He Jin in the same year, yet he was nevertheless amongst the eunuchs slaughtered by Yuan Shao and his troops when they stormed the palaces of Luoyang in retaliation for the death of their General-in-Chief.
