For the technology, see Gatling Gun Towers (Technology).

Gatling Gun Towers are a type of tower defence chain building in Fall of the Samurai.

Description[]

Even dying can follow modern fashion.

Gatling gun towers are an improvement to the basic defences of a castle. These mechanical marvels of death from America can cut down any attackers within their range. While machinery is incredible, it surely reflects poorly on a warriors' honour to resort to such methods of making war.

General Information[]

Requires 8000 gold, 6 turns, Matchlock Towers, Gatling Gun Towers technology. Can be upgraded to Gun Batteries.

  • Upgrades castle defences on the battlefield to Gatling guns
  • -1 to happiness from modernisation

Clan Effects

  • +2 to modernisation (clan development)

Gatling Gun Towers replace matchlock towers during fort defenses. They fire somewhat faster than matchlock towers, though not nearly as quickly as their names would suggest. There is very little reason to justify building them, given their out-of-the-way requisite research and building slot. They also compete for construction slots with traditional and modern military buildings for town defence: both produce garrison troops during sieges, which are both more flexible and more powerful than towers. However, in border towns where other economic and/or military buildings are already constructed, gatling gun towers can slightly bolster their protection from invasion, particularly when used in conjunction with garrison troops. Their very high cost is also problematic, as the funds could have been far better served raising units that are both more flexible and more powerful in defending fortresses. The A.I also prioritizes targeting defensive towers with artillery during siege defenses, often rendering them useless before they can even deal damage.

Gatling gun towers are considered military buildings, and therefore benefit from events that reduce the construction times and costs of upgrading them.
