Gong Du is a playable faction in Total War: Three Kingdoms added by the Yellow Turban Rebellion Warlord Pack. It starts the game in Wudu commandery, surrounded by enemies on all sides. The faction appears in 190 and later in 200, where Gong Du takes over the territory of He Yi. Gaining a rank as a duke, king, or emperor will not rename the faction.

Dominion of Gong Du[]

Dominion of Gong Du is a passive effect unique to the faction of Gong Du. Its exact stats are as follows:

Dominion of Gong Du

  • +10% campaign movement range
  • +10% post-battle loot income
  • -10% corruption (all commanderies)

It is not right that one can eat while another starves, that one must fight while another laughs, and that one must die while another profits.

Liberate Stance[]

Liberate Stance is an army stance can only be activated in enemy territory. It drastically reduces public order in the local commandery, while simultaneously stealing food and reserves from the the enemy. Activating Liberate Stance during a long siege is a good way to starve out an enemy settlement.

Playstyle[]

Gong Du’s abilities support his highly adaptable and opportunistic playstyle. His guerrilla camps increase the amount of supplies and battle loot he receives, and Gong Du’s ability to use the Liberate stance while in enemy territories allows him to seize the supplies of his opponents and add them to that of his own army. This also means his armies can operate further way from his territories. Gong Du starts his campaign with access to Guardians of the Land, heavily armoured polearm-wielding former bodyguards of nobles who slew their masters in order to join the Yellow Turbans’ cause. He can also gain access to Virtuous Noblemen – well-armoured melee cavalry equipped with formidable axes.

Starting Situation[]

Rise of the Warlords (190)[]

TW3K Gong Du 190

190, Gong Du - Yellow, Enemies - Red

It would be unwise to suggest that Gong Du does not share his brothers' zealous belief in the Yellow Turban cause, yet he views victory through a more practical lens. The Taipingjing - 'The Way of Great Peace' - dictates that harmony between heaven and earth can only be brought about through the defeat of evil, and Gong Du is primarily concerned with how that defeat should be brought about; war-making is his business - logistics, manpower, strategy - and he intends to thrive in this endeavour!

Start: Very Hard

Gong Du starts the game Wudu commandery, located very close to the territory of both Dong Zhuo and Ma Teng. What this means is that he is an easy target and will most likely face the combined wrath of the entire Han Empire. First, Han general Tian Fen must be defeated; then, you must take up arms on your own initiative. The easiest target is the abandoned Jiameng Pass, where you can establish order. After that, you have two options.

You can take the fight north, directly against Zhang Lu, Ma Teng and Dong Zhuo, although defeating their overwhelming numbers will be difficult. The more unorthodox option is to gather your forces and strike south, attacking the weak Han Empire forces in Baxi commandery or perhaps even governor Liu Yan himself. From here, further away from Dong Zhuo, you can gather your strength to defeat him later.

Fates Divided (200)[]

TW3K Gong Du 200

200, Gong Du - Yellow, Enemies - Red, Allies - Blue

Gong Du remains standing: the fire of rebellion still rages in his heart and the final moment of truth awaits!

Gong Du has inherited the territory of He Yi in Runan commandery but stands in a perilous situation. Caught up in a war much bigger than himself, Gong Du stands isolated, bordered by the extremely powerful Cao Cao to the north. Xiahou Yuan awaits nearby in Huainan commandery. If you can defeat him, you can start taking land off Cao Cao's southern border, as most of his armies are in the north, fighting Yuan Shao and Liu Bei. However, beware of Zhang Xiu on your left flank, or he might sneak into your territory.
