Gun Batteries FOTS

Gun Batteries are a type of tower defence chain building in Fall of the Samurai.

Description[]

Guns are the final argument in war.

Gun batteries improve the defences of a castle by emplacing large numbers of artillery pieces in critical locations with good fields of fire. Any enemy foolish enough to mount a direct assault must cross a killing field bombarded from several directions by grape, shot and shell.

General Information[]

Requires 14,000 koku, 8 turns, gatling gun towers building, Militarised Society technology.

  • Upgrades castle defences on the battlefield to gun batteries
  • -2 to happiness from modernisation

Clan Effects

  • +4 to modernisation (clan development)

Gun Batteries replace gatling gun towers, creating towers that can switch between gatling guns for close range and cannons for long range. The cannons deal minimal damage and don't fire explosive ordnance unlike most artillery, but are better than nothing. Reload speed can also be temporarily increased thanks to the addition of a faster reload ability with a cooldown timer.

Gun batteries require significant amounts of research time and money, and take up a building slot in addition to increasing unhappiness in provinces. They are rarely worth building, as the money could have been spent on recruiting dozens of units, which would be far more useful in defending fortresses as well as being able to maneuver and attack. They also compete for construction slots with traditional and modern military buildings for town defence: both produce garrison troops during sieges, which are both more flexible and more powerful than gun batteries. However, in border towns where other economic and/or military buildings are already constructed, gun batteries can slightly bolster their protection from invasion, particularly when used in conjunction with garrison troops. Gun batteries are considered military buildings, and therefore benefit from events that reduce the construction times and costs of upgrading them.
