Biography[]
Born in Nanyang commandery, Guo Sheng was a eunuch and member of the Ten Attendants during the reign of Emperor Ling. Though their relationship was far from cordial, Guo Sheng was the closest of the eunuchs to He Jin, the General-in-Chief of the Han Empire. After Emperor Ling's death in 189 AD, the young Liu Bian ascended to the throne with his mother, Empress Dowager He, and her half-brother, He Jin, acting as the regents. Not long after, Jian Shi, a eunuch and old enemy of He Jin, began to plot to assassinate him alongside a group of other eunuchs. When Guo Sheng was invited to the plot, however, he warned He Jin, which resulted in the execution of the conspirators.
Despite doing this favour, however, it didn't stop He Jin from being assassinated later that year by another eunuch plot. In the aftermath of the General-in-Chief's death, Yuan Shao and a small army stormed the palaces of Luoyang, slaughtering every eunuch they could get their hands on. Guo Sheng's favour for the He family did not spare him from meeting the same fate as the other eunuchs.
