Biography[]
In 195, during Emperor Xian's flight from the control of Li Jue and Guo Si, the former bandit Yang Feng attempted to defend him but was defeated. Yang then called upon his old allies, including Han Xian, a leader among the White Wave Bandits (which are remnants of the Yellow Turbans), to support the emperor. Han Xian and the others came to the emperor's aid as he fled toward Luoyang. Despite their efforts, Li Jue and Guo Si returned with reinforcements, defeated Yang Feng, and forced Emperor Xian to flee.
In August 196, Emperor Xian returned to Luoyang with the help of Yang Feng, Dong Cheng, and the White Wave Bandits. For his role, Han Xian was appointed General-in-Chief and Colonel-Director of Retainers. He and Dong Cheng stayed behind to guard the emperor. However, when Cao Cao arrived and took Emperor Xian to his stronghold in Xu, Han Xian tried to resist but was defeated. He then fled south to join Yuan Shu.
After joining Yuan Shu, Han Xian and Yang Feng turned to banditry, raiding counties in Yang and Xu provinces. In 197, when Yuan Shu’s proposal to marry his son to Lü Bu’s daughter was rejected, he sent Zhang Xun—supported by Han Xian and Yang Feng—to attack Lü Bu. But Lü Bu, following Chen Gui’s counsel, persuaded the two to defect because who in their right mind would want to serve under Yuan Shu? They helped Lü Bu defeat Zhang Xun, then continued raiding until reaching Zhongli before withdrawing.
Later in 197, Lü Bu sent Han Xian and Yang Feng to raid Liu Bei’s supplies but they were ambushed, which led to the death of Yang Feng. Han Xian left and journeyed north toward his homeland in Bing Province, but was intercepted and killed.
Strangely enough, his service under the Yellow Turbans weren't noted much and he was decently loyal to the Emperor despite originally being one of the White Wave Bandits.
