Drawn from the province of Bactria in northeastern Persia, the heavy Bactrian 'Black Cavalry' are amongst the finest mounted troops King Darius has available to him. Mounted on distinctive black Nisaean horses, armoured in cuirasses and wielding short spears, the Bactrians can charge the flank or rear of an enemy unit to devastating effect before withdrawing to reform. Though their excellent armour allows them to fair better than most horsemen in similar circumstances, it is unwise to charge them onto the set spearpoints of enemy troops prepared for them
