For the faction, see Huang Shao (faction)

Huang Shao is a Chinese name; the family name is Huang.

Huang Shao is a unique legendary Scholar hero in Total War: Three Kingdoms. He leads his own faction, Huang Shao, in 190. He is a member of He Yi in 194.

Description[]

Huang Shao is an adherent of the Way of Great Peace, which states that harmony between Man and Heaven can only be achieved when all evil is exorcised. For Huang Shao, there can be no compromise in his beliefs. There is only the way of the Yellow Sky – and all those who oppose it will be rent asunder.

Huang Shao is a scholar, and thus embodies the virtue of humility. While wiser than most, Huang Shao does not fall to prey to arrogance. Instead, he constantly seeks to increase his knowledge – and the knowledge of others – in order to better understand the will of Heaven.

Of all the remaining Yellow Turban leaders, Huang Shao is the one who is most loyal to the teachings of Zhang Jue, the original founder of the movement. This allows him unique insights with which he hopes to guide the Yellow Turbans and ensure the path laid out by Zhang Jue is not lost or forgotten.

Biography[]

Huang Shao was born in Runan commandery. He was quick to join the Yellow Turban Rebellion in the 180s, surviving after the death of the Zhang brothers. Huang Shao continued his fight for the Yellow Turban cause heading into the 190s. He became a local leader and the most prominent of the Resurgent Yellow Turbans, with a force of tens of thousands under his command. With increasing pressure on him and other Yellow Turban leaders in the north, Huang Shao allied with Yuan Shu and Sun Jian further south, much like He Yi.

In 196, Cao Cao attacked the Yellow Turban remnants under Huang Shao and He Yi, where the former chose death over surrender. Huang Shao was well-respected amongst the Yellow Turbans, and his death sent ripples across the ranks, and mass surrenders – including He Yi's – followed soon after.
