For the character, see Huang Zu

Huang Zu is a non-playable faction in Total War: Three Kingdoms. He starts the campaign in central China, located in Jiangxia commandery. The faction appears in 190, 194, and 200. Gaining a rank as a duke, king, or emperor will rename the faction to Sui.

Unique Features[]

Huang Zu isn't a playable faction and therefore doesn't have any unique units, buildings, or features.

Starting Situation[]

Rise of the Warlords (190)[]

TW3K Huang Zu 190

190 - Huang Zu (Green), Liu Biao (Dark Blue), Cai Mao (Light Blue), Enemies (Red)

Huang Zu starts the campaign in Jiangxia commandery. He is a vassal under governor Liu Biao and is at war with his enemies, the most notable of which is He Yi to the north. He borders Cai Mao, a fellow vassal of Liu Biao, to the west. He is also at war with the generic Yellow Turban Rebellion faction. Despite being a vassal, Huang Zu's starting commandery is quite well-developed and he is a relatively powerful minor warlord, making him a great asset for Biao throughout the campaign. He is unlikely to break free, however, and might end up being confederated by Biao.

A World Betaryed (194)[]

TW3K Huang Zu 194

194 - Huang Zu (Green), Liu Biao (Blue), He Yi (Red)

Huang Zu starts the World Betrayed campaign in Nan commandery. He has been kicked out of Jiangxia by He Yi, but Huang Zu is still more powerful than he was in 190. Now the sole vassal of Liu Biao, he has grown into a relatively powerful faction with four counties under his control. Together with Liu Biao, beating back He Yi shouldn't be too difficult. However, Huang Zu is still unlikely to gain independence and could be confederated by Liu Biao in the future.

Fates Divided (200)[]

TW3K Huang Zu 200

200 - Huang Zu (Green), Liu Biao (Blue), Enemies (Red)

Huang Zu starts the Fates Divided campaign in his original position in Jiangxia commandery. While Liu Biao's power grows, Huang Zu's power only diminishes, as he loses more territory. He finds himself at the frontline of Liu Biao's war with Sun Ce and his vassals to the east, making him the first target for the aggressive and rapid warlord. Liu Biao is not expected to send much help, as he also fights Yan Lin to the south, forcing him to fight on two fronts. This leaves Huang Zu in a troublesome position, and he might be conquered by Sun Ce early on in the campaign.
