Inn FOTS

The Inn is a type of business chain building in Fall of the Samurai.

Description[]

"More sake! Now!"

An inn is a place for entertainment, and for weary travellers to rest on their journeys. It increases the happiness of the local population and, as they can use their skills there, enables geishas to be recruited as agents. The great Imperial roads of Japan had inns at regular intervals, allowing messengers to rest before pressing on with the Shogun's business. Unfortunately, they also had a less salubrious side: drunken duels were not unknown, and gambling was also common. Geishas, however, did not provide any "personal services" to their clients: they were decorous escorts, not prostitutes. It was their part to make sure that everyone had a good time, drank a lot, ate excessively, and spent a lot of money at the inn.

General Information[]

Requires 1400 koku, 4 turns. Can be upgraded to Gambling Den or Market.

  • +360 to wealth generated by trade in this province
  • +1 to happiness in this province
  • Enables recruitment of Rank 1 geisha

Inns provide a variety of important benefits. They are relatively cheap wealth producing buildings, and are good early investment options. They are not as profitable as cottage industries, but they provide happiness, and so are great for regions that have high unrest: they pay for themselves in 17 turns assuming default tax rate, but if their +1 happiness keeps a region under control and saves the cost of training and maintaining a garrison unit, they break even in just 12 turns. They are a compromise between police stations and cottage industries in terms of profitability and public order increase.

Inns also allow for the recruitment of geisha, agents that specialize in distracting armies, enchanting agents and generals, and have skills that further aid in town wealth growth. Inns built in regions with a smuggling tradition can recruit geisha that have a higher level of experience. Geisha are so profitable in the long run that building enough inns to train the maximum number of geisha (5-8, depending on the experience of the Chief of Staff in the cabinet) is always a worthy investment.

Inns, and all their upgrades, are 10% more profitable when in provinces controlled by the Nagaoka. High level geisha also provide a global increase to wealth from these buildings, making them even more profitable in the late game.

All buildings in the business chain are considered civil buildings, and benefit from decreases in cost and construction time granted by certain events and missions. Taking advantage of such events can make large amounts of extra money in the long run.
