Biography[]

Jia Xu grew up as something of a prodigy when it came to mind games. Incorruptible and extremely talented, he was appointed straight to the imperial court in Luoyang, which was more or less unheard of. When Dong Zhuo became regent of the Han Empire, Jia Xu began serving them instead. Unfortunately for Zhuo, however, he was assassinated by Wang Yun and Lü Bu in 192.

While this more or less shattered the spirits of his remaining supporters, it was Jia Xu who held an alliance of loyalists together. With the aid of Li Jue and Guo Si, they managed to overthrow Wang Yun, retaking Chang'an while regaining control over Emperor Xian, and as a result, the entire Han Empire. However, when offered a prestigious title by the two new regents, Jia Xu refused.

Once war broke out between Li Jue and Guo Si, he sided with Jue, but this civil war would only end up crippling both sides. Emperor Xian escaped to the lands of Cao Cao with the help of Yang Feng. A failed offensive against Feng crippled both sides of the civil war even more, leading to their combined area falling into chaos. Jia Xu joined a roaming warband under Zhang Xiu at the time. They travelled across China before they eventually joined Cao Cao in his war against Yuan Shao.

Jia Xu began to serve Cao Cao as a tactical advisor, leading to the warlord scoring a chain of victories against Yuan Shao. Jia Xu's tactics proved unbeatable in a fight, and he quickly rose to the very top of Cao Cao's advisors. He served Cao Cao across his campaigns for the next two decades, his strategies often winning against all odds. Besides Cao Cao, his other generals would also continually seek out Xu for advice or conversation. However, Xu carefully avoided befriending any influential people, as he wanted to avoid getting involved in China's cutthroat politics.

When Cao Cao died in 220, Xu became Cao Pi's principal military advisor. He helped solidify Cao Pi's somewhat shaky early reign, helping the Emperor of Wei to score many victories against his enemies, just like he had assisted Cao Cao before. Unfortunately for Pi, he could not rely on Xu's aid for long, as he died in 224 of old age.
