Kai is a province in Total War: Shogun 2.
Description[]
Situated in the heart of Chubu, Kai is moderately wealthy. Home to the Takeda clan since the 12th Century, the province is believed to have been one of the earliest settled in Japan, with archaeological finds suggesting that people have lived here for over 30,000 years. Today, the province is a major centre of wine production, accounting for over a third of wine drunk in Japan.
Total War: Shogun 2[]
- Clan: Takeda Clan
- Port: None
- Fertility: Average
- Specialty/Resource: Warhorses
Home to the Takeda Clan, Kai is a valuable province thanks to its warhorse resource. Kai is the easternmost province to have warhorses, making it a useful target for the Date Clan, Uesugi Clan, and Hojo Clan.
Kai is largely surrounded by impassable mountains, but has entrances to the north, south, and east.
Kai borders North Shinano to the north, Musashi to the east, Sagami to the southeast, Suruga to the south, and South Shinano to the west, but it only has direct access to North Shinano, Musashi and Suruga thanks to the surrounding mountains.
Rise of the Samurai[]
- Clan: Takeda (Minamoto)
- Port: None
- Fertility: Average
- Specialty/Resource: None
Kai is considerably less valuable than its Shogun 2 counterpart, as it has no specialty and only average soil. Nevertheless, it is adjacent to holdings of both the Kiso Minamoto and the Kamakura Minamoto, with the two branches of the Minamoto clan being able to link up early if it is captured by either of them.
Fall of the Samurai[]
- Clan: Kofu (Imperial)
- Port: None
- Fertility: Meager
- Specialty/Resource: Copper
Kai has worse soil fertility than its other incarnations, but makes up for this with valuable copper production. It is the closest copper-bearing province to Nagaoka domain, and is also close to the Jozai domain.
