The Kingdom of Sardinia or Piedmont-Sardinia is a faction in Napoleon: Total War.

Tutorial[]

In the tutorial, the Kingdom of Sardinia makes a small appearance as it briefly declares war on France. The player is prompted to blockade its port, forcing it to sue for peace.

Italy Campaign[]

Sardinia's first major appearance in the game is in the Italy Campaign (named Piedmont-Sardinia), where it is France's first main target. It controls most of the western half of the map. France is prompted to attack and conquer Turin, Piedmont's capital. If the French player succeeds in capturing it, Piedmont-Sardinia becomes France's protectorate and first ally. While Piedmont-Sardinia has a fairly large number of territories, most of them are nearly completely defenceless--the A.I prefers to concentrate troops at its capital. On the highest difficulties, Piedmont-Sardinia may violate its protectorate agreement and declare hostilities with France once again later in the campaign. In the multiplayer version of the game, no mission is issued for making Piedmont-Sardinia sue for peace, and some of its territories from the singleplayer version of the campaign are given to other factions.

Should Piedmont-Sardinia be destroyed, it cannot emerge again. All of its initial regions spawn generic rebels if they have a rebellion, instead.

Diplomacy[]

Initial diplomacy map

Piedmont-Sardinia is initially at war with France. It is allied to Austria and is the first enemy France has to fight. Austria has a few small armies in Piedmont-Sardinian territories that further hamper French progress.

Piedmont-Sardinia is friendly to neutral with all other regions, who rarely interact with it.

Below is a chart of grievances and friendships other factions have toward Piedmont-Sardinia (factions that are not listed are neutral). Both positive and negative values diminish by 1 per turn over time.

Europe Campaign[]

In the Europe Campaign, Sardinia (once again named Kingdom of Sardinia) only possesses the island of Sardinia. It usually builds a dockyard at its only port slot, so one cannot normally trade with this faction. Its lack of allies, its proximity to several trade nodes and its gold resource make it a lucrative target for annexation. However, its initial wealth is very poor.

Diplomacy[]

Initial diplomacy map

The Kingdom of Sardinia is generally very passive, and rarely attacks other factions. Most factions are fairly neutral to it, but the Kingdom of Italy, Great Britain, and particularly France harbor heavy diplomatic hostilities against it. The Kingdom of Sardinia is practically never invaded, however, and it never invades other factions. At most, it may use ships to harass others that sail too close to its island.

Below are a list of grievances/friendships other factions have with the Kingdom of Sardinia initially. This list is exhaustive; factions that are not listed do not have friendships or grievances (they are neutral).

This list is exhaustive; factions that are not listed do not have friendships or grievances (they are neutral). As the Kingdom of Sardinia cannot emerge from liberation or rebellion, it has no friendship/grievance set of relationship points with other factions that cannot emerge.

Military[]

In the tutorial, the Kingdom of Sardinia has a large roster of ships that it almost never has access to, as well as line infantry. It is nearly impossible to see these as the role they play in the tutorial is very minimal.

In the Italian Campaign, Piedmont-Sardinia only has access to line infantry, militia, and light artillery. While its roster is nominally larger than this, building constraints of the campaign forces them to make do with the most basic units.

In the European Campaign, Piedmont-Sardinia has a substantial roster of ships, and also gains grenadiers, hussars, dragoons, and more varied artillery.
