A military general who served under Sun Ce then Sun Quan. He was born in 178 and from Fupo County, Runan Commandery.

Early in his career, Lü Meng was known for his courage as a warrior but criticized for his lack of literacy and any formal education. Despite this, he demonstrated a remarkable commitment to self-improvement. Encouraged by Sun Quan, who saw great potential in him, Lü Meng dedicated himself to studying and refining his knowledge. His hard work paid off, as he became well-versed in military strategy and governance, earning the respect and admiration of his peers and superiors.

He played a crucial role in several campaigns, including the conquest of Danyang and the defeat of Huang Zu. His most notable achievement was the successful invasion of Liu Bei's territories in southern Jing Province in 219, where he captured the city of Nan and defeated the general Guan Yu.

For his contributions, Lü Meng was appointed as the Administrator of Nan Commandery and given the title Marquis of Chanling. Lü Meng enjoyed his finest hour after the victory but died a few months later because he was already seriously ill before the campaign, despite Sun Quan's efforts to provide him with the best medical care, Lü Meng's illness proved fatal, passing away at the age of 42. Sun Quan was extremely grieved by Lü Meng's death.

Before his death, he had instructed his family to store all their prized possessions – including gifts from Sun Quan – in a vault and return them to his lord after his death. He had also asked for a simple funeral. Sun Quan felt even more sad when found out that Lü Meng had made such arrangements before his death
