Overview[]
In the 190 start, Li Jue is an initially below-average general in Dong Zhuo's army. His damage potential is heavily neutered by the fact that his initial activated skill is Final Rush, instead of something more tangible like Flames of the Phoenix. He starts with a generic spear.
Li Jue is much more useful in the late game. If made prime minister, heir or faction leader, he reduces the upkeep of all units by 10%, albeit with the drawback of also decreasing characters' satisfaction. The benefit far outweighs the drawback, since retinue upkeep in the late game could number in tens of thousands of gold, while high satisfaction is not hard to maintain with reforms, items, and skills.
On the battlefield, Li Jue's main advantage is that the combination of his armor, traits, and Final Rush allows him to be one of the fastest vanguards in the game.
Biography[]
Li Jue joined Dong Zhuo sometime before the Yellow Turban Rebellion broke out, rapidly rising through the ranks. He played a key part in Dong Zhuo's rise to power, fighting many battles against the coalition in the early stages of their rebellion against the tyrant. He failed to convince Sun Jian to join Dong Zhuo instead of the coalition, and Sun Jian would later go on to defeat both Dong Zhuo and Li Jue at the Battle of Hulao Pass. After the defeat, Dong Zhuo moved back to Chang'an, and the coalition collapsed as the warlords started fighting one another.
When Lü Bu killed Dong Zhuo, Li Jue initially meant to remain loyal to his replacement, Wang Yun, but was refused. He simply shrugged this off, recruited one of Zhuo's former generals, Guo Si, and simply marched into Chang'an with an overwhelming army. Lü Bu fled east, later revolting against Cao Cao, while Wang Yun was beheaded by Li Jue.
With Li Jue and Guo Si now in control of Chang'an and Emperor Xian, they became the unofficial rulers of the Han Empire. However, their legitimacy was denied by practically everyone in China. Most notably, two of Dong Zhuo's former supporters on his western border, Han Sui and Ma Teng, tried and failed to attack Chang'an to capture Xian and restore him to power.
While successful at defeating the two warlords, Li Jue and Guo Si had a falling out over leadership, causing a civil war to ravage the territory. Neither side would truly end up "winning" this war, as they both tore their territory apart while neighbouring warlords started picking off lands on their border. An eventual ceasefire was agreed upon, which allowed Yang Feng, a disloyal vassal of Jue, to capture the emperor and defect to the east, delivering Xian to Cao Cao.
With his territory bankrupted, his generals disloyal, and Jue losing control over the empire, his defeat became nothing but a matter of time. He died surrounded in Chang'an after a drawn-out siege.
