Biography[]

What Liang Mao is doing in Gongsun Du's faction instead of Cao Cao's is a mystery, as practically his entire political career revolves around Wei. He grew up roughly around the area where Du later rose to power, but his early life as a clerk was as an assistant to Cao Cao. The warlord saw potential in him, however, and promoted him to an Imperial Clerk. Liang Mao would later be appointed as the administrator of Lelang commandery, located in modern-day North Korea.

One day, Gongsun Du arrested Liang while he was travelling and proceeded to hold him hostage. Here, he overheard the warlord and his generals discussing their plan to attack Cao Cao from the east while he was distracted. It was Liang Mao who talked Gongsun Du out of it, stating that it would be suicide to do so.

Eventually released, Liang Mao returned to serve Cao Cao, where he was appointed the administrator of Wei Commandery. For the rest of his life, Liang Mao would help in the background, advising both Cao Cao and his son, Cao Pi. He would even earn himself the title to be Cao Pi's primary tutor, but he would die before 220 when Cao Pi became Emperor.
