Biography[]

Born to Liu Cheng, either the Prince or the King of Chen depending on your translation, Liu Chong grew up in absolute wealth as heir apparent to Chen commandery. At Chen, he mastered the crossbow, going so far as to write an instructional book on how to properly use one, known as the Nushe Bifa.

At the outbreak of the Yellow Turban Rebellion, the local bureaucracy began fleeing in droves, leading to Liu Chong launching a gentle coup of the area, taking over alongside an impressive military with many elite archers that he had trained himself. The Yellow Turban Rebellion didn't reach his fiefdoms, however, and he spent the rest of the rebellion idle.

Liu Chong joined the coalition against Dong Zhuo in 190 alongside his trusty chancellor, Luo Jun. However, his involvement in the coalition was minimal. After Dong Zhuo's death, Liu Chong remained neutral in the conflicts between the various warlords around him. Chen's continued neutrality led to the area being relatively prosperous and peaceful despite the chaos in China at the time. However, this peace would come to a quick end in 197. Yuan Shu demanded that Liu Chong pay him tribute with various supplies for his military campaigns, which Luo Jun refused. Enraged, Shu had both Luo Jun and Liu Chong assassinated. Without Prince Chong, the area began to fall into chaos and disorder and was rapidly taken over by neighbouring warlords.
