Biography[]

Liu Cong was born to Liu Biao. As the second son, he stood to inherit little, as Liu Biao initially favoured Liu Qi, Cong's older brother. Liu Biao remarried after the death of his first wife – Qi and Cong's mother – marrying Lady Cai. Liu Cong soon followed suit, marrying the niece of Lady Cai. The Cai clan began heavily leaning towards Liu Cong and began a widespread propaganda campaign praising Cong to the heavens while slandering Qi. Ultimately, Liu Biao was swayed into making Cong his successor, marking the start of a mutual hatred and rivalry between Liu Qi and Cong.

Liu Biao died in 208, leading to Liu Cong becoming the new Inspector of Jing Province. Shortly after, Liu Cong came under attack by Cao Cao. Cong was persuaded by his advisors to not put up resistance and simply surrendered to Cao Cao. In response, Liu Qi – with the aid of Liu Bei – rallied a defence of Jing and ultimately managed to hold out until Cao Cao's defeat at the Battle of Red Cliffs.

Now loyal to Cao Cao, Liu Cong was rewarded by being made Inspector of a different province: Qing. He was also given a fancy Marquisdom to his name, as Cao Cao controlled the Han Dynasty at the time. Ultimately, Liu Cong would even land himself a promotion, becoming a military advisor to Cao Cao (Yes, really, despite surrendering immediately) before ultimately fading into obscurity and disappearing from the history books.
