Liu Dai is a Chinese name; the family name is Liu.

Liu Dai is a legendary Strategist hero in Total War: Three Kingdoms. He leads his own faction, Liu Dai, from a minor farming settlement adjacent to, and just southwest of Dong Commandery in 190.

Historical Character[]

Liu Dai was a significant politician and minor warlord from Muping County (牟平縣), Donglai Commandery (東萊郡), which is in present-day Muping District, Yantai, Shandong. Bearing the family name of Liu, he was of noble descent. His ancestor, Liu Xie (劉渫), who held the title "Marquis of Muping" (牟平侯), was a son of Liu Jianglü (劉將閭). Liu Jianglü was a son of Liu Fei, the eldest son of the Han dynasty's founder, Liu Bang (Emperor Gao).

Liu Dai's grandfather, Liu Ben (劉本), was an eminent Confucian scholar. His father, Liu Yu (劉輿), served as the Administrator (太守) of Shanyang Commandery (山陽郡). Liu Dai's uncle, Liu Chong (劉寵), served as the Grand Commandant (太尉) in the Han imperial court in 169.

Liu Dai held the political title of Palace Attendant (侍中) and later was Inspector (刺吏) of Yan Province (Dong Commandery in the Total War: Three Kingdoms game).

His death in 192 AD came while he was serving as Inspector of Yan. The province had been invaded by a massive Yellow Turban force emanating from nearby Qinq Province and had occupied Yan (Dong), killing the local administrator. He recklessly attempted to dislodge the Yellow Turbans but suffered a devastating loss instead. During the defeat of his forces, he was slain on the battlefield.
