Musellims are a type of mob in Empire: Total War.
Description[]
A mob, armed with whatever they have been able to steal.
These people are hardly even peasants, as they do not have any land to work. But they can still be pushed into taking up arms, a desperate action for such folk. At best, they will be armed with agricultural tools (these can still kill in angry hands) and whatever they have managed to loot.
They are of dubious military worth.
General Information[]
Along with Semenys, Musellims are the Ottoman equivalent of Firelock Armed Citizenry: cheap, weak units that spawn for free when a region's capital is attacked. However, unlike Firelock Armed Citizenry, they may also be trained like most other units. Musellims have very high numbers, but their terrible statistics make them ineffectual against a prepared enemy.
Musellims have no ranged capabilities to speak of, and are only very marginally better in a melee. Their tendency to break after only slight setbacks makes them more of a liability than an asset in most battles. On the other hand, they are incredibly cheap to train and upkeep, meaning they can be used to settle public order fairly effectively.
Despite their weaknesses, musellims are just as good at taking damage as any other unit. Properly used, they can absorb enemy fire effectively, preserving the numbers of more expensive, useful regiments. They can also be used to screen an army, revealing ambushes.
