The Ostrogoths are a minor unplayable nomadic faction in Rome: Total War: Barbarian Invasion. They were made playable in Total War: Rome Remastered along with several other factions. Normally, the Ostrogoths are an emergent faction that comes about when a Gothic settlement rebels. In Rome Remastered the timeline is simulated until this point, then the player takes over as the Ostrogoths.

The Ostrogoths were the major eastern branch of the Gothic tribes that, during the 3rd and 4th centuries AD, established a kingdom north of the Black Sea from where they mounted constant incursions against neighbouring Roman provinces. In the late 4th century, the arrival of the Huns overwhelmed the Ostrogoths. Some migrated west into the Roman-controlled Balkans, but most submitted to Hunnic rule. After the collapse of the Huns in the mid-5th century the Ostrogoths allied themselves with the Eastern Roman Empire and become heavily dependent on financial and military aid from Constantinople.
Now, powerful nomadic tribes from the east press relentlessly on the Roman frontier. Should the Ostrogoths join the assault, they are perfectly placed to expand into Roman territory and establish a new Ostrogothic kingdom.
