TW3K Peasant Band 430x

An inexpensive anti-cavalry unit with low upkeep. In a pinch, they can do the job.

Peasant Band is a light Polearm Infantry unit in Total War: Three Kingdoms. They can only be recruited in Champion retinues. Strangely, they require an early reform to unlock them: Agricultural Tax Relief. They specialize in anti-cavalry melee encounters and have the unit ability Charge Reflection vs. Mounted units. Since they are non-professional soldiers, they have very little armor, low morale and are not able to deploy into advanced formations. On the positive side, their Ji, Glaive and Spear weapons are effective and have high armor piercing capabilities in melee.

Proper Use[]

Most useful as a counter to cavalry, these barely armored polearm infantry are capable of light duty against infantry or cavalry in the early to mid-game. They are best used on the flanks like most spear and polearm infantry. They are extremely vulnerable to ranged units since they also lack a shield. They can be cost-effective if used carefully, but they are likely to suffer high casualties much of the time and may be considered "disposable" units in many situations.

Recruiting[]

These Wood class units can only be recruited in Champion retinues. It is best to recruit with Champion characters who've unlocked the Trust skill as they will buff Peasant Band armor by 10%, which more than doubles their base armour of 7%. It's also wise to recruit with Champions with any additional Skills, Traits and Ancillaries that can boost their polearm retinues.

  • Type: Light Spear Infantry
  • Base cost to recruit: 335
  • Base unit upkeep: 100
