Phalangists are a type of spearmen unit available to the Macedonians in Rome: Total War: Alexander.

Evolved by Alexander's father, Philip II, the Macedonian Phalangists are a heavy armed, heavy armoured unit trained to fight in phalanx formation. Whilst the standard contemporary Greek hoplite had shed much of his heavy wargear to aid mobility and stamina on the battlefield, the development of effective heavy cavalry tactics by the Macedonians removed such constraints from their infantry. Clad in heavy bronze helms, cuirasses and greaves warn over leather armour and bearing hoplite shields the phalangists are able to present a formidable hedge of longer heavier spears than any infantry unit of the time. Though exceptionally slow-moving when in formation and vulnerable to the flanks and rear, the Phalangists provide a stable platform around which Alexander can base his wider battle plans.
