TW3K Reforms-reveal

User interface of Reforms system

Reforms are a gameplay mechanic in Total War: Three Kingdoms Reforms are analogous to Technologies Arts and other tech tree mechanics from previous Total War titles.

Overview[]

Reforms advance faction’s capabilities, improve economic bonuses, unlock units and new building types for construction in commanderies. Player can mouse over each reform to get an overview of the benefits and unlocks it grants.

Player can research one new reform in the spring season of every year (each five campaign turns). Certain reforms have prerequisites of two or more branches to research; scrutinise the branch imagery behind a reform to determine those prerequisites.

Factions in the Yellow Turban Rebellion, Bandits and Nanman subculture have different reform mechanics which are not tied to the seasons. Instead, they choose reforms to research, which then takes a variable amount of time to complete, based on faction's research rate and other variables.[1]
