When a resource is present in a province, a special building chain can be build there. The produced resources give extra value to the trade routes of the producing faction. See the table below on how much every resource is worth at the beginning of the campaign. The resource value can change during the campaign.
Gold cannot be produced and traded. Provinces with gold do have a special building chain.
Holy Sees are sometimes shown as resources. However, they work differently from other resources. See Holy See.
