Salernum mini map

Salernum is a tier I-VII map in Total War: Arena.

Description[]

The half-ruined Salernum is located just down the coast from Pompeii. Spared by the volcanic disaster, the bay town bathes in greenery surrounded by vast Roman farmlands. Its streets and alleyways provide cover from ranged attacks and give ample opportunities to march down with heavy units and ambush troops. Scattered across the map are three towers, the one in the middle being a must-have area for both camps as it gives a massive sight bonus to the side that controls it. There are two ways to approach the enemy: either through the town, or through the woods north of the city. The latter is perfect for carefully planned surprise attacks and ambushes carried out by light units.

Key Features[]

  • Half of the map is dominated by the city of Salernum. Its streets and alleyways give ample opportunities to ambush enemy troops and provide cover from ranged attacks.
  • The main road is the fastest way between the two camps, but taking it means exposing your units to missile attacks and ambushes.
  • This makes taking the watch tower in the middle of the map an important objective as it gives a massive bonus to sight to either side that can control it.
  • A slower but less obvious way to the opposing camp leads through the woods north of the city. It's perfect for carefully planned surprise attacks and ambushes.
