Saxony is bordered by Prussian held Brandenburg and Silesia to the north and north-east, respectively, Austrian Bohemia to the south, Bavaria, and Hessen to the south-west. It is initially allied to no one, nor at war with anyone. This makes it a good candidate for invasion for Austria or Prussia. In fact, Prussia can annex it on the first turn.
Saxony does not have high potential for wealth in the long term, but its initial region wealth is decent at the beginning of the campaign. Its three-slot city and iron resource makes the region a good hub for recruiting armies. It also has the potential to build a school.
Historical Friendships/Grievances[]
Saxony tends to ally with Hessen, its neighbor. It often also allies with Austria, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. It often ends up fighting Prussia as the campaign progresses.
Below are a list of grievances/friendships other factions have with Saxony initially. This list is exhaustive; factions that are not listed do not have friendships or grievances (they are neutral).

Military[]
Saxony has a strong cavalry roster, with a good selection of heavy, light, and medium cavalry. Its infantry roster, however, is very limited, with just line infantry, militia, and grenadiers. Its utter lack of longer-ranged options makes it very vulnerable to neighboring Prussia and Austria, the former of which fields among the best light infantry in the game.
Saxony has a below average artillery roster for a minor faction. While it has access to 6-lbers, horse artillery, and howitzers, it lacks 12-lbers.
