The Sendai domain is a faction in Fall of the Samurai.
Description[]
The Negotiators
Date Yoshikuni, the lord of Sendai, is loyal to the Shogunate. His family have been loyal to the Tokugawa clan since the end of the wars of the Sengoku Jidai. Then, Date Masamune had proven himself worthy, and established the domain with the blessing of the first Shogun. Even before then, the Date had been a noble and notable family of samurai, beginning as the Isa clan under the Minamoto. Given control of the Date province, and taking the name as their own, they survived centuries of turmoil. They have done this by political guile, implacable enemies, and fierce warriors. Now, as lords of Sendai, they are still all of those, even after centuries of relative peace. In battle, Sendai armies have longer when attacking, and need to defend for less time, making victory less of a race to achieve. The Date clan also have a bonus to all diplomatic efforts, and are tolerant towards people with different allegiance.
General Information[]
- Tolerance (+3 reduction to unhappiness from differences in allegiance)
- Tact (+10 to diplomatic relations)
- Siegecraft (2 turn reduction to surrender time when besieging castles)
- Respect (+1 reduction to resistance to occupation across all provinces)
The Sendai have very useful traits for aggressive expansion. Siegecraft essentially allows them to siege out most provinces in a single turn in the early game, meaning they never have to fight a fort battle if they don't want to. After taking territories, regions have a reduction in the unhappiness penalty. Finally, the Sendai's small bonus to diplomacy makes securing alliances and negotiating peace easier.
Militarily, the Sendai don't have any faction-unique advantages, but it is the only faction that starts with a unit of Shogitai: the best melee infantry by a considerable margin, and usually only available by the mid-game.
The Sendai have good expansion opportunities. Northern Honshu is filled with fertile lands, so expansion is very lucrative. The Sendai can expand to the north into Ezo, where they can grab coal-laden provinces highly useful for fielding navies, or they can head west into central Honshu for lands with varied specialties. Fully conquering the north is the safer option, as the Sendai can then concentrate their forces in the south without worrying about being attacked from a different direction, while southern expansion is a more aggressive and risky path as it strays further toward Imperial territory while leaving the northern flank unguarded. Alternatively, players can attempt to expand in both directions at once, but this ambitious undertaking would require a significant amount of money to field the armies needed.
