Silk Weaving Shed FOTS

The Silk Weaving Shed is a type of industrial chain building in Fall of the Samurai.

Description[]

The kiss of the breeze upon the skin.

A silk weaving shed adds to the wealth of a province, and helps industry to grow. Silk worms are cultivated in Japan, so this building requires no machinery from foreigners, giving the province a traditionalist air. Obviously, access to silk is required before the shed can be built.

Silk was, and remains, a remarkable fabric. The silk kimono is almost a clichéd image from Japan, although during the Meiji Restoration it was a symbol of the old ways. As modernisers among the Japanese nobility, bureaucracy and merchants adopted western dress, the traditionalists were equally keen to retain the kimono and other traditional garb. This distaste for Western fashion did not normally extend to a distaste for Western firearms, and even staunch traditionalists would, quite discreetly, tuck away a revolver.

General Information[]

Requires 3,800 koku, 4 turns, silk resource, and Cottage Industry. Can be upgraded to Factory.

  • +1300 to wealth generated by industrial buildings in this province
  • +3 per turn to town growth from industrial buildings within this province
  • -1 to happiness from modernisation

Clan Effects

  • +1 to modernisation (clan development)

Silk weaving sheds are upgraded from cottage industries. Compared to their competitors, Craft Workshops and Cotton Weaving Sheds, silk weaving sheds provide the largest initial wealth generated and are built the most quickly, but are nearly as expensive to build as cotton weaving sheds and are tied with craft workshops for producing a minimal amount of wealth growth per turn. Silk weaving sheds pay for themselves in 21 turns, making them better than craft workshops in both the short and long term, as they pay for themselves marginally faster but also generate better long term wealth due to the higher initial wealth generated. However, while craft workshops may be built by any faction, silk weaving sheds are only available to factions that produce or import silk.

Silk weaving sheds increase modernisation by the smallest amount, making them either a good option for those wishing to stay on lower levels of modernisation, or a bad option for those looking to advance quickly.
