The Smugglers' Cove is a type of smuggling building in Fall of the Samurai.
Description[]
Crime does pay, and gold will wash away all stains.
A wise warrior uses the weapons to hand; given a spear, he does not ask for a sword. A nest of criminality might seem a source of trouble and discontent, but with "encouragement" it can be a well of gold. It can also be a training ground for intrigue and deception. The Tokugawa prohibitions on overseas contacts and trade kept out foreign influence, but they did not suppress desire for foreign goods. Although trade with the Dutch was allowed at Nagasaki, it could not satisfy everyone. Where there is demand for the forbidden, there will be criminals. Once there are criminals, they will make money through criminality. Once the money flows it finds a way into many purses, and the boundaries between the shadows and the light become very blurred.

- +1% to trade income (tariffs only)
Smugglers' coves don't provide tradable goods, nor do they provide a particularly large sum of initial wealth, but they are some of the most lucrative chain of buildings in the long run thanks to their excellent town wealth growth. It is not uncommon for provinces with smugglers' coves to be among the wealthiest provinces on the map by the mid-late game. This is further compounded by the additional trade income smugglers' coves generate. Tariff income usually amounts to around 500-1000 koku per trading partner toward the mid game, so an extra 1% would mean an extra 50-100 koku per turn assuming 10 trading partners. The more trading partners and the greater the volume of trade goods, the more valuable smugglers' coves and their upgrades become. Conversely, if trading partners are hard to come by (if the player decides to declare independence, for example), or if there aren't many trade goods to be sold, these buildings are less valuable.
Smugglers' coves give geisha recruited in their provinces +1 to their initial rank, making them much more useful and pay for themselves much more quickly.
Provinces with smuggling specialty are, from east to west, Hiyama, Mikawa, Inaba, Awa, and Nagasaki.
