Sweden is relatively powerful for a minor faction, controlling both its namesake region, as well as Finland. As both its regions have lumber resources and Sweden itself has access to a port, a major city and a cultural/research building spot, this makes it a good candidate for invasion. Sweden is also an excellent recruitment center thanks to its multi-slot capital city along with its iron and timber resources.
As Finland lacks ports and Sweden usually doesn't build a navy, if it loses its home region it has practically no way of retaliating from Finland (and vice versa). Swedish-held Finland is a victory objective for Russia in its campaign.
A small Swedish army starts the game stationed in Mecklenburg.
Diplomacy[]
Sweden is allied with the coalition and begins the game at war with France and her allies, though given its geographical isolation and its passiveness it rarely fights battles unless invaded. It usually makes peace with its enemies as the campaign progresses, and it practically never declares war on anyone it isn't already at war with at the beginning of the campaign, let alone mount invasions. The one exception to this is Prussia; should the two factions declare hostilities, the Swedish army in Mecklenburg may sometimes raid Brandenburg.
Below are a list of grievances/friendships other factions have with Sweden initially. This list is exhaustive; factions that are not listed do not have friendships or grievances (they are neutral).

Military[]
Sweden's infantry roster is largely unremarkable: it has average line infantry and skirmishers, but lacks light infantry and grenadiers.
Sweden's cavalry roster is more unique, being one of the few factions that can recruit elite heavy cavalry, though it lacks lancers. Its Mounted Jagers have good ranged capabilities for missile cavalry and are very cheap. In conjunction with its average line infantry and guard roster, this makes Sweden a good faction to play aggressively as, on open maps or maps with many options for flanking. While mounted jagers are more or less the same as Mounted Nizam-I Cedit and Mounted Rifles fielded by the Ottoman Empire and Russia respectively, the former lacks elite infantry and the latter has poorer quality troops in terms of ranged capabilities, so Sweden can hold the edge in specific battles and situations. Indeed, Sweden may have to play aggressively anyway--Sweden's lack of light infantry and its mediocre skirmishers make it a poor faction to sit passively and wait for enemy armies to approach.
Sweden has the standard minor faction artillery roster. Its naval roster is below average, lacking steam-powered ships, though it is one of the only factions that can build 80-gun Ships-of-the-Line.
Trivia[]
- The flag used by Sweden is the civil ensign of Sweden used until 1844 which is historically anachronistic. A more historically appropriate flag would be the mid 17th century-1815 state flag of Sweden.
- Some of the things the Swedish diplomat says are references to the Swedish disco band ABBA such as when he rejects an offer he says ''I don't want to talk about the things we've gone through sir''.
