Thrace is a minor non-playable faction featured in Rome: Total War: Alexander. They are essentially a city state and only control Byzantium.
Tactics[]
Thrace is a non-playable faction and will not cause much problems to Alexander on his conquest to Persia. Thrace is one of two barbarian nations that will harass Alexander through the opening few turns just by virtue of how close they are to Macedon. Like Illyria, the other nearby barbarian nation, Thrace control only one city, being Byzantium, the future site of Constantinople. However, Thrace does not have the mountains and thick forests to protect them like Illyria, meaning they will likely be wiped out first by Macedon.
Just below Byzantium there is a patch of forest, where their main army will likely be hiding. However, by marching Alexander down there (who has a full stack army compared to their half stack or less) they will be taken out relatively easily, even if they manage to spring an ambush. They have a far smaller roster of units compared to Macedon and far less cavalry, meaning the solid Macedonian infantry and heavy cavalry should have an easy time taking them out, even with their few good units like Barbarian Swordsmen and Barbarian Sickle-men. After taking out their primary army and hopefully their general, the city will be left with just three or four units defending it, easy enough for Alexander to sweep in victoriously and take the settlement. Because it's their sole settlement, by taking it, Thrace will be destroyed and any armies they have left will either disband or turn into rebels.
