Wang Yun is a Chinese name; the family name is Wang.

Wang Yun is a Commander hero in Total War: Three Kingdoms. He is a member of the Han Empire in 190 and 182.

Biography[]

Wang Yun was from Qi County, Taiyuan. His family had a long history of officials in regional government. He became an official at 19 and served as Inspector of Yu Province but later lost a power struggle to the eunuch Zhang Rang. He served under three emperors: Ling, Shao, and Xian. After Emperor Ling's death, general He Jin promoted Wang Yun to Gentleman of the Household and then Intendant of Henan.

In 190, following chaos in Luoyang, Dong Zhuo controlled the throne with a puppet emperor. Wang Yun held significant positions during this time. Dong Zhuo's tyrannical behavior (as expected from Dong Zhuo) led Wang Yun and others to plot his assassination, successfully carried out by Lü Bu.

After Dong Zhuo's death, rumors suggested Wang Yun sought to purge Dong Zhuo's former subordinates. Refusing to grant amnesty, Wang Yun faced rebellion from Li Jue and Guo Si, who attacked and captured Chang'an. Wang Yun remained loyal to Emperor Xian and was ultimately captured and executed along with his family with some relatives survived.

In "Romance of the Three Kingdoms," Wang Yun devised an intricate plot to eliminate the tyrant Dong Zhuo. He used Diaochan, a singer he treated like a daughter, to sow discord between Dong Zhuo and Lü Bu by captivating both of them, creating tension between them. Lü Bu, believing Dong Zhuo had taken Diaochan for himself, grew angry. Diaochan pleaded with Lü Bu, deepening his resentment. Wang Yun convinced Lü Bu to assassinate Dong Zhuo, setting up an ambush at the palace gates. Dong Zhuo was lured into the trap and killed by Lü Bu. When Chang'an was later besieged by Li Jue and Guo Si, Wang Yun demanded they spare Emperor Xian and then committed suicide by jumping from the city gates.
