Historical Context[]
Wulingyuan is a valley in the Wuling mountain range in the Hunan Province of China. It is an extremely remote area of China that was nearly impossible to access for most of human history. It wasn't until the 1970s that Wulingyuan was "discovered", and the area became accessible to the public. Wulingyuan is famous for its gigantic quartzite sandstone pillars, the largest of which stand over 200 meters tall. It is a popular tourist spot and was quickly turned into a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
