Overview[]

Yan Baihu stands out due in large part to his items: his weapons, The White Tiger's Claws, are the best dual-wielded weapons in the game, and his armor grants him a respectable 50 base, as well as a +15% running speed and a +15% melee evasion on top of his already high expertise. Uniquely, Yan Baihu's armor grants his retinue Stalk, allowing them to hide in forests unseen.

He's also a Bandit Sentinel which grants him the ability to use Poison Volley. If positioned correctly, this ability can absolutely devastate the ranks of the enemies.

Yan Baihu has some weaknesses as a faction leader. His background only grants him +50 stats, none of which are in authority, and his base as a sentinel ensures that his authority will never be spectacular. His faction-wide bonus of saving money building in resource counties can accelerate an economy in the early game, but it doesn't do much beyond that.

Biography[]

Yan Baihu is not his real name. Baihu was a title given to him by the people he led, meaning "White Tiger". His personal name is unknown, so he is referred to as Yan Baihu or White Tiger Yan in historical sources. Yan Baihu was a bandit leader who commanded a small army in the hills near Kuaiji commandery. When Sun Ce conquered the area in 195, Yan Baihu gave refuge to the deposed governor Xu Gong. While they occasionally skirmished with Sun Ce's forces, Sun Ce couldn't be bothered to deal with Yan Baihu despite mopping up other rebel groups in the area.

In 197, Cao Cao tried to contact Yan Baihu to get him to his side, hoping to use him against Sun Ce if needed. Sun Ce received word and had Cao Cao's messenger chased away. He personally raised his forces and went after Yan Baihu, aiming to deny Cao Cao of a potential ally. Severely outnumbered, Yan Baihu's forces were annihilated, and he fled south, where he spent the rest of his days in hiding.

In Romance of the Three Kingdoms, he meets a slightly different end. Instead of fleeing south, he flees east, hoping to enlist the aid of Wang Lang. However, his army is destroyed on the way, and he is killed. His head is sent back to Sun Ce as a trophy.
