Biography[]

Despite Yan Liang's reputation as being one Yuan Shao's best generals, almost all details about the man are lost to history. It is unknown where he even came from, but it can be safely assumed that Liang served under Yuan Shao somewhere around the time of the coalition against Dong Zhuo.

Yan Liang commanded troops during Yuan Shao's invasion of Cao Cao's Duchy of Wei in 200. It was here, slightly before the decisive Battle of Guandu, that Yan Liang was identified in Shao's ranks during Cao Cao's counter-attack, and was ultimately killed after Wei soldiers charged into the ranks to put an end to the general.
