Biography[]

If there's a Favored Son and Unfavored Son of Yuan Shao, then this is the forgotten third sibling of theirs. Killed by Gongsun Kang along with Yuan Shang in 207, he was described as "intelligent but weak and indecisive". His wife was also taken by Cao Pi, while he was still alive.

In the novels, after being defeated with the combined forces of him and Yuan Shang, he fled to Gongsun Kang, hoping one day to take over Gongsun's forces to attack Cao Cao but Gongsun Kang had a different plan in his mind as he decided to kill Yuan Shang and Yuan Xi, who wanted to ally with Cao Cao instead, sending their heads to Cao Cao. This is also probably historical as well.
